I think my Daemon posts have run their course. I’ve been making these for over a year, with my earliest artwork date being from April 2019, but the thoughts of a cross over between His Dark Materials and Kingdom Hearts has probably been around since KHIII’s release- when I finally got back into the series.

I will probably draw and muse more later down the line; most likely when a new KH game comes along and there’s new characters or scenarios I feel the need to draw and include Daemons in. So this isn’t an official end-all to all my Daemon/KH content, just a put on hold for now.

Edit:
I’m going to keep updating this list by editing this post and adding links with the newest drawings at the top. It’s much easier to compile everything into a single post than to make many posts over and over

there aren’t enough posts going around about the swedish cryptid known as the skvader which is a rabbit with pheasant wings and also a very good boy.

like this one dude just made a fake taxidermy and spread it around as a hoax for a good ass while and it lead to this really cool fantasy creature and i am genuinely dissapointed that it never gets used in anything

THE BOY

Rabbirds, by the amazing @tkingfisher/Ursula Vernon (source).

The lack of skvaders is particularly frustrating when you realize it forms the third point of a wonderful cryptid trifecta.

You got the jackalopes, which are rabbits with antlers.

And you got the wolpertingers, which are rabbits with antlers and wings.

And then… what? Do you escalate? That’s unbalanced, those two rabbit cryptids don’t have the same number of extra things, the wolpertinger is clearly the jackalope But More.

BUT with the skvader on the other side, balance is restored. Antler rabbit, winged rabbit, winged antler rabbit. It’s a classic Venn diagram of imaginary lapine beasts, and it’s only complete if you acknowledge the fucking skvader.

Good thing Ursula’s got our back, at least.

This is a really excellent point and I applaud your advancements in Cryptid Theory.

Gentleman, if I might add:

yes you may add this

I think balance in crypdids is VERY IMPORTANT.

also according to michael collins when the three of them were discussing what neil armstrong should say when he first stepped on the moon, collins suggested armstrong say “Oh, my God, what is that thing?”  and then scream and cut out his mic.

Everyone forgets Michael Collins and it’s fucking tragic.

found a twitter tweet that was like “oh yeah content warning hatoful boyfriend has a lot of gore and violence” and every single person in the notes/retweets/qrts/whatever the fuck terms twitter has was going “WHAT THE FUCK IT HAS WHAT” and i find that hilarious because. large amounts of gore and violence is a tremendous understatement about the amount of stuff that goes down in hatoful boyfriend

my full trigger list for hatoful boyfriend (and its sequel), for anyone curious is:

  • war and genocide
  • suicide (including coerced suicide)
  • murder (including decapitation and dismemberment)
  • cannibalism
  • guns
  • terminal illness and biological weaponry
  • persuing monster-based horror
  • unreality
  • scientific experimentation-based horror
  • racism
  • childhood trauma and parent death
  • infanticide (or more accurately, bird abortion)
  • emotional manipulation
  • unhealthy/codependent relationships
  • death of a romantic interest
  • twisted morality and gray morality
  • general heartbreakery

just on the off chance anyone reading this doesn’t know what Hatoful Boyfriend is

Phylum #2: Porifera, the sponges!

Venus flower baskets (Euplectella aspergillum), looking like glass-woven translucent baskets. By NOAA Okeanos Explorer Program. (Public domain)ALT
Yellow tube sponges (Aplysina fistularis), looking like upright yellow spongy tubes on the seafloor. By Nick Hobgood. (CC-BY-SA 3.0)ALT

While not the most basal animals, sponges are probably the closest to what the first animals looked like. The basic shape is pretty simple: a surface covered in numerous pores takes in water, funneling it out through a large chimney.

The cells in charge of driving water through the pores, choanocytes, are surprisingly close in function to our closest unicellular relatives, choanoflagellates, hinting at a deep evolutionary connection between us and them. It is believed that the first sponge-like animals arose through multiple choanoflagellate-like cells sticking together, beating their flagella in tandem to filter water together!

While the basic sponge body plan is pretty simple, they have evolved numerous variations on it. Glass sponges have become delicate creatures built upon a silica skeleton, and have been reported to live for up to tens of millenia at the bottom of the ocean!

Meanwhile, deep-water carnivorous sponges capture small prey like crustaceans, with velcro-like hooks and enigmatic balloon-like structures!
